Celebrate Women

CELEBRATE WOMEN is a project aimed at and focused around empowering women. It is an open invitation project in which each participant is photographed with a signifier of what makes her feel empowered, loved, intelligent, strong, and beautiful. In summation, the contributor showcases whatever makes her feel positive about herself. From March 1st to March 7th, photographers Nicole Chan, David Santiano, Brian Ho, and Millie Wong are inviting women to be photographed for this project. These images will form a collective narrative that will be publically released on March 8th, International Women’s Day. The project is an outlet for each woman to have control over and share her personal narrative; it is a platform for a woman to share what she finds deeply important with a larger audience. This object of significance each woman chooses can be anything from a book, to an accessory, to a cultural symbol, to a religious symbol, to a food... Literally anything that holds meaning to the participant. It is also not limited to physical objects, as confidence can stem from other sources such as clothing, piercings, haircuts, tattoos, and makeup. It is a project about women in which women are able to explore and share their identity as they choose to. CELEBRATE WOMEN is an international cooperation as the photography team is split between New York City, USA and Shanghai, China.
